SILVER STATE WINS SIXTH STRAIGHT IN $1 MILLION METROPOLITAN H. (G1)

Winchell Thoroughbreds and Willis Horton Racing’s Silver State extended his incredible winning streak to six races with a one-length win over By My Standards in Saturday’s $1 million Metropolitan H. (G1).

Bred by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, Silver State is out of the Empire Maker mare Supreme and was bought for $450,000 by Winchell Thoroughbreds from the Eaton Sales consignment at the 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

With a keen Knicks Go intent on getting the lead, Silver State backed off to sit about two lengths behind the pacesetter. Knicks Go and Mischevious Alex battled for the lead around the turn, with Silver State in third along the rail. Knicks Go drifted wide into the stretch and Silver State slipped through to take over the lead. Mischievious Alex began to fade with a furlong to run and By My Standards closed late for the place.

The final time was 1:35.45 on a fast track.

“The Met Mile is an extremely significant win and one of the great races in American racing. This is six wins in a row for him,” trainer Steve Asmussen said. “He is just an absolutely beautiful Stonestreet homebred that Mr. Horton and Ron Winchell purchased and have campaigned. Their patience to allow him to get to this level was perfect.”

Four-year-old Silver State’s winning streak dates back to October and includes wins in the Oaklawn H. (G2), Essex H. and Fifth Season S. His overall record is 7-2-1 in 11 starts, with earnings of $1,765.094.
